:) Hello all:

This is my first post and I'm really concerned about this happening. I hope someone can help me.

I have a Dell Dimension PC using Windows 98, 2nd Edition. Lately when I go online or to my email my system resources drops from 86% to 67-55% in just a matter of less than one hour.

I have cleaned up my cookies, deleted my files, defrag, ran scan-disk and a dozen other things, but can't seen to solve the problem. Any suggestions.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give

First, I would suggest you run AdAwareSE, Spybot Search & Destroy, or MS AntiSpyware.
Second I would suggest you download Highjack This!, extract the program to a folder on the hard drive (not desktop) and run a scan, then copy/paste the log results back here.

:) Thank you for your help! I have already run Ad Aware, Spy Bot and some others to no avail. Will try HiJack This as you suggest. Will let you know what happens. Have a great day! ;)

Also be aware Windows 9x versions have issues with "memory leaks" natively, meaning memory is used by programs and is not released properly when the program is done with it. An poorly written application can cause this leakage to be worse as well. We may be able to see memory-hogging applications in the HJT logs, so that is why I suggested that step.
The XP/2000 Windows versions manage memory much more efficiently so they do not require periodic reboots to free up the memory, a big advantage if you want to run your PC for extended periods.
