Hey,

I appear to have the same problem as reported by danosirra on 11/06/2004
'Help - automatic redirect for Yahoo! mail'.

When I bring up yahoo mail (inbox/bulk), I am automatically redirected to
many competing ads. Extremely frustrating! I've ran Ad-Aware SE and
cleaned all infections. I've also ran Housecall Online Antivirus - this reported
5 viruses, which I have removed. My problem still exists.

The following is the logfile from HijackThis, I would greatly appreciate any
help with the diagnosis, as I am about at my wits end.

Thanks,

Paul Wilson

Hello and Welcome to PCGuide....

You do seem to have some problems there, but we need to see the whole log before we attempt any fixes... Please post the entire log, use two posts if you need to....

Hello again... We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Next open an HJT log and put checks by these:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O1 - Hosts: 216.93.174.28 view.atdmt.com
O1 - Hosts: 216.93.174.28 ad.doubleclick.net
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: C:\WINDOWS\BIOVCIPS.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [EBIOVPW] C:\WINDOWS\EBIOVPW.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pmr] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Presentia\pmr.exe

This one looks suspicious... If you don't recognize it, check it too....

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://home.sve.chello.se/ssi/welco...me.php?url=home

Then close all open windows except HJT and click Fix Checked...

Find and delete these files and the folder in the last one:

C:\WINDOWS\BIOVCIPS.exe
C:\WINDOWS\EBIOVPW.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\[b]Presentia\pmr.exe

If you cannot or find one or more, open HJT again, choose Config and then Misc Tools, click on "Delete on reboot" and copy/paste the full line from the list in the dialogue window that opens... Do each one that won't delete and click through to close and reboot... Post a fresh log when you finish... If you are still having trouble, provide as much info as possible about what happens and where you are being redirected...

Hi Budfred,

I ran through your instructions and the problem has been resolved.
However, I searched for the executables (C:\WINDOWS\BIOVCIPS.exe,
C:\WINDOWS\EBIOVPW.exe, C:\Program Files\Common Files\Presentia\pmr.exe),
but was unable to find them on my computer. Wasn't sure whether you wanted me
to post another fresh HJT run or not?

Also, is there anything you can recommend to prevent future attacks like this?

Thanks for all the help.

Paul Wilson

If you were not able to delete those files, it is likely the infection will return... Did you try the "Delete on reboot" option in HJT?? If you did, boot to Safe Mode and see if you can find and delete them... You may need to set Windows to show all hidden and system files to find them...

And yes, it would be a good idea to post a fresh log after a reboot... I will give you more ideas about protection after we make sure you are clean...
