I have just added w2000 as 2nd o/s (1st being w98se)
when it boots, bootmagic gives the option of w98se or w2000 (w98 being default) clicking on either o/s (or waiting 30 secs for auto) I then get the following error message....
**WARNING**
Disk boot sector is to be modified, Type 'Y' to accept, any key to abort.
Award Software Inc.
---------------------
if I press any key, nothing happens, if I press 'Y' it then boots up ok in any o/s I've chosen. but I get the same warning on every boot
one thing I did wrong is not change the partion to active or primary, so w2000 is on its own none active logical partition (from what I've read I feel it shouldn't work, but it does)
also since install I have read in partition magic to install both o/s in same partion, but I thought that was a bad idea!
advice please

What you are seeing is a message from your BIOS anti-virus program, it is notifying you that you are changing the MBR. The change you are making is which partition is active...it doesn't matter that you didn't set the 2K one active, your bootloader is doing it for you.

have just read this in pm...
Create Scenario: To create a primary partition for Windows NT
One 3 GB hard disk containing one active primary FAT32 partition (C http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif running Windows 98.
For this scenario, you want to resize drive C: smaller. In the newly created free space, you will create a primary FAT partition where Windows NT can be installed. At the end of this scenario, your disk map will appear (approximately) like this.
WIN98 779.6 Mb Hidden Fat 32 / C: WINNT 1,248.2 Mb FAT
Steps
1 Resize drive C: smaller by 780 GB.
The partition where you want to install Windows NT must begin in the first 2 GB of the drive, or Windows NT will not be bootable. The arrow markers on the disk map, delimit the 2GB boundary of the hard disk.
2 Create a primary partition in the free space using the following information:
Option Action
Partition type Select FAT.Do not select FAT32 unless you are using Windows 2000. Earlier versions do not recognize FAT32 partitions. Also, do not select NTFS. When you install Windows NT, you can convert the partition to NTFS.
Label (optional) Specify the label or name of the partition.
Size Type 1250.
Before performing the next step, make sure you have the Windows NT installation CD and disks; otherwise, you will not be able to boot your computer.
3 Set the new partition active.
4 Hide the FAT32 partition.
5 Apply the changes to your system.
6 Reboot the computer using the first Windows NT installation disk.
7 Complete the Windows NT installation.
PowerQuest technical support does not help install operating systems.
8 Add Windows NT to your BootMagic configuration so that each time you start or restart your computer, you can select the operating system you want to boot.
Result
When the computer restarts, BootMagic presents a list of the available operating systems, in this case, Windows 98 and Windows NT. Select the operating system you want to boot.
bootmagic gives those options but (having chosen) I get the error message then have to choose again !
also pm contradicts itself when another part of the help file gives the following info.......
O/S Boots from Pr/L Sup/Types Boot Code Boundary Space Required
DOS 6.22 (and earlier) Primary FAT 2 GB 8 MB
Windows 95 Primary FAT or FAT32* 8 GB 90 MB
Windows 98 Primary FAT or FAT32 8 GB 175 MB
Windows Me Primary FAT or FAT32 8 GB 295 MB
Windows NT Primary** FAT or NTFS 8 GB 125 MB
Windows 2000 Primary** FAT, FAT32,
or NTFS 8 GB 1 GB
Linux Either Linux Ext2 8 GB 250 MB
OS/2 Either FAT or HPFS 4 GB
as you see its now saying 8 Gb not 2. then what about this....
If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000, partitions are not hidden automatically; therefore, you can have multiple visible primary partitions.
contradicting earlier statements about only 1 visible partition, (or was that w98?)
everything seems to be running ok, exept for the warning message which I feel should'nt be there, but what now ? is it better to have both o/s in one partition as suggested,
and shouldn't the o/s have some room, not cramped as in example ?
& how do I uninstall w 2000 for another attempt ?

You can either go into your BIOS and turn off the AV or live with the error message......

If you install 98 first and put in 2K disk, make sure you set aside a partition for 2K, it will load and set up. I uninstalled boot magic, and let windows loader give me the choice, and it will.
