I have two PCs with WinMe OS.This morning, I tried to connect them together through PLT port, using Direct Cable Connection mode. I did my best, but the host computer couldn't listen the guest computer(it asked:'Is the guest computer running?', and the guest computer couldn't connect to host computer. I don't know why. Would you kind enough to help me?I'm waiting for your replies.

What type of Cable are you using for the LPT to LPT connection?

You need a special cable for this.

Hi

Please correct if I'm wrong on this as I had never done it before. There is this LAPLINK cable which is an RS 232 9 pin connector (same as our old mouse connector) that we can use for such. But bear in mind that not all connectors that can be "poked" in is the right cable. You need to ask if this is for the right purposes.

I hope this helps. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif Good Luck

To use the Com port for a direct connection
You need a serial cable and a Null Modem adapter.
Or a Null modem cable . ( This cable has CTS and RTS wires crossed)

CTS = Clear To Send
RTS= Ready To send

This is much the same as the LPT cable that is specifically designed for this purpose has

Hello Rick and Nexis9!
I'm very sorry for late replying.I had tried using the com port for direct connection.It's OK. Yet I could'n still use the LPT port.According to your advices,however, I brought my cable to seller for checking.That cable is not the right one for my purpose. Now, my PCs is connected together after I bought a new cable.Thanks a lot for yours attention.
Thanks,Nexis9!

No problem. Its great that at least something I suggested made some sense http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif . Anyway while working I had a "brush" with these 25 pin and 9 pin RS232 connectors. As what Rick said I believe of the 9 pins only 3 or 4 are used http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif Happy linking http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
