I have a similar problem with my laptop. The disk is firmly in place though. I have tried burning at least 6 different disks. Messages appear saying either that there is insufficient space on the disk (which isn't the case) or that it cannot see that there is a blan disk in the drive. I have been using Nero for a long time without any problem and now I can't burn anything. I tried using a different burning program but that has been equally unsuccessful. My laptop IS A AS8400, running Windows 2000 and my drive is a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD2002. I would be really grateful for some help. Many thanks.

It might not necessarily be a software problem - hardware does wear out or break. How long have you had this notebook and combo drive? The SD-2002 is, after all, fairly elderly as optical drives go these days.

windthorpe... Hello and Welcome to PCGuide...
I split this off to a new thread because the one you posted to is more than a year old... You are more likely to get helpful info in a different thread... :)

Hi windthorpe, it sounds like you need a new DVD-ROM drive. My 2 year old CDRW drive gave the same symptoms and when I brought it in to get it repaired, they told me the lazer head is worn off and it can't be fixed.
