I'm ashamed i need to ask but is it possible to share an Internet connection over a bridged connection? i have to share a connection (using xp) using a wireless card (ad hoc mode) and a wired nic. is it possible?

I was hoping someone with a bit more network experience would pick up on your question (rather then me :eek: )
I can't answer your question directly but I have a couple of questions for you. Why "Ad hoc"? Why bridged? Are you going wireless card to wireless card then out through NIC? Or are you using a WAP?
If you are using a WAP, stay away from Ad hoc. This is functionaly the same as having to comps plugged together with a crossover cable.
As for bridging, I never did learn a clear definition as to why, but was told to stay away from that as well (if anybody knows the benifit of bridging, I would love to know why).
Theoreticly this should be possible. You connect two machines together, get them communicating, then share the connection. ;)

Yes you can. I did it for a while. Connect your NIC to your router, and set it to get IP Automatically. Configure the wireless card with static IP in the same scheme as your DHCP IP are. Highlight both connections, and select bridge (Do Not Use ICS). Configure the other machine with a static IP to match the rest of the network scheme.

okay not to confuse the matter but heres how the network is going to be set up.
*1 pc, with internal dialup modem.
- contains 1 wireless card
- contains 1 NIC

internet needs sharing to
* 1 laptop
- contains wireless card

* 1 desktop
-contains nic

what i'm trying to work out is if i bridge the connections and share the dialup over the bridge, would that work? i need to give both computers access. normally under xp it allows me to share the net over one network connection, not both.

there are no routers or hubs. the server and the desktop are connected via crossover.

If you go start>Help and Support, and search Network Bridge you will get most of the info you need.

If i recall correctly, windows does allow you to share to a bridged connection, as it is handled as separate NIC also.

I can't be sure, as it is years ago when i last time needed something like this.

If that kind of stuff doesn't work, you can always put vmware and Linux routing on vmware, or easiest possible: get external WLAN attacheable to your switch :)
and DLink 10/100 switches cost @ cheapest ~30$
