Hi all. Quick question here.

Spyware Blaster blocks ActiveX installaions and is equipped with a very good database of malware ActiveX signatures.

Spyware Blaster also supports Firefox and offers real-time protection for it as well.

Here's my question:

If Firefox doesn't support ActiveX, then what exactly is SpywareBlaster protecting it from?

Thanks.

SpywareBlaster is controlling tracking cookies in Firefox from the same unscrupulous sites that want to hijack your IE.

Ahhh, so it offers cookie protection as well. Got it. Thanks PrntRhd...:D

BTW: No fair. Your profile says 'Amateur Master Geek' and mine says 'Master Geek.' No way that's possible... You're much more knowledgeable than I am, you have more posts, and you're even a moderator, so how's that possible?...:D Please demote me or promote yourself, PrntRhd...:)

I actually got that information from SpywareBlaster Help:
Blocks cookies that may be used to track your activities, build a profile about your habits, collect information, or uniquely identify you to advertisers.
Their database is up to 3502 items as of 4/16/05, BTW.

And as to the title, have you seen:
Budfred's
Sylvander's
Malcore's
Paul Komski's
Saphalline's

The more you know, the more you realize what you don't know. You know?

No way! If Budfred's not a 'Supreme Exalted Grand Master Geek' (like Paleo Pete) then I don't know who is...:)

How is that system supposed to work, anyway?
Something is telling me it's flawed...:D

Oh and for Paul Komski, what would be the next step up after 'Chicken Head Eating Geek'? LOL

It is a cute thing, only on this site, you used to have to get to a certain number of posts to make your own title, like Paul Komski or Whyzman have done, the rest of us slowly worked our way along and the titles changed as post counts increased. Some left the titles advance by default. Some of us changed the titles the other way to let others know how we feel about ourselves.
It is not the title that is important to most of us.
Moderators were both given Supreme Exalted Grand Master Geek status, but ixl changed the title structure when this version of the board software was introduced so we can call ourselves what we wish (within guidelines).

I agree wholeheartedly, PrntRhd. I was just pointing out something I felt was a little funny, that's all. ;)

Hi,
i notice you advocate both spywareguard and spywareblaster...
i have been using guard but i think i would like the protection of blaster
can you run them both together?
If not would you favour one over the other?

cheers
anton ;)

You can run them together... When you run SpywareBlaster and enable all protection, it sets a killbit that prevents the malware from working on your system... You then turn it off until you update it about a week later.... It does not need to be running to work and therefore, it doesn't conflict with anything (except malware)...

Hi Budfred,
thanks for that, i was getting a little confused cos doing an alt-cntl-del would not show it as a running app.

I have to start it manually each time at the moment.
When it sets a killbit, is that the app that functions within the system? Does it run even when i restart the pc? IF SO, where does it load from..i cannot find in msconfig--startup nor the other tabs.

cheers
anton

I am not sure I understand what you are asking... When you run SpywareBlaster, you set protections and close it... You don't need to run it every day or really more than once a week and that is only to update it... It works when it is turned off, so it doesn't need to be on... It will only show up in Task Manager when you open it...

Here is my prevention speech... the article in the link may give you more ideas:

This is a good time to set up protection against further
attacks. Read the article linked below about "How did I
get infected". You need an antivirus that is updated, a
good firewall (a router firewall is not enough) and a
spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads.
All of these have good free versions available... be very
cautious about any security software that advertises in
popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually
useless, but also often have malware in them....
