:(
I posted this on another forum and with nothing to lose I followed this advice and now I'm here. Now What?
Please Help!
My adware shut down and my computer won't cooperate.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For several days now when I click on my internet explorer this about:blank comes up instead of my usual MSN.com home page. I've gone into tools and reset it a hundred times and it just isn't working. I reinstalled my adware and still each time I click on the big E for Internet Explorer I get this homepage. I just tried clicking on it and immediately running adware and it's showing all kinds of malware. What can I do to get rid of this?

Pentachris replies:

His diagnosis sucks.

Grab the latest version of HijackThis and head over to aleph's other forums.DONE THIS Sign up and start a new thread in the Networking and Internet > Applications and Security area describing your problem, and post your HijackThis log. If you are willing to help I will send it PM.There are some guys over there who are really good at clearing junk off of PCs - Budfred and David Eaton are two that come to mind, they're both really good.

I do computer work for family and friends - upgrades, basic troubleshooting, etc. When it comes to malware that Stinger, Adaware and Spybot S & D won't clear up, that's where I turn.

We need the whole log, copy/paste in sections until it is all there.

I haven't checked anything to be deleted since I'm no professional by any means and I don't want to delete something that my system needs. Thank you for responding so quickly.

Ok, you edited it, now we wait a bit. Do not "fix" anything until the experts advise. BTW, Classicsoftware and Pete are not slouches on these either.

Thank you so much. I don't know who you are referring to but I'm going to put my trust in you. At this point I feel that most of you are far more qualified than I am when it come to problems. I love computers and can learn just about any program as well as typing 90 wpm, but that's the extent of my computer skills. Again, I will not do anything until advised by the experts here. I know that it's taking a chance to trust in complete strangers but for some odd reason I feel that you wouldn't be here if you didn't love computers also! :)

Budfred hops in and out as he also is running mod at another site, but they will see your log and come up with fixes.

Did you run About Buster?????

Please run it again and post the log from about buster.

I also note that internet explorer was open when the log was created. IT SHOULD BE CLOSED.

The only window that should be open is the Hijack this window.

You also need to run CWShredder:

http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html

and it wouldn't hurt to run this Symantec tool:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.agent.b.removal.tool.html

If these fixes don't seem to work, boot into Safe Mode and run them...

I've printed out your instructions and run them but I'm still showing some of the items I's checked off many times as per your instructions. I know it must be frustrating trying to help someone online let alone someone with as little knowledge of pc repair as I do but I do appreciate everything you've been doing for me. Thank you!

This is the one that keeps showing back up after I've checked it several times.

Good to see you here, MzJag. :)

Pentachris replies:

His diagnosis sucks.
She called a tech and his diagnosis was "that I have a very serious virus and I will lose everything on my computer." :o

BTW, Classicsoftware and Pete are not slouches on these either.
You're right, of course; Budfred and David Eaton were just the first two that came to my mind. You're in good hands, Jag. :)

Any other ideas or suggestions on what to do now?

Did you run the other fixes and scans suggested?? Please post the AboutBuster logs if you did... For this item:

O23 - Service: Network Security Service ( 11Fßä#·ºÄÖ`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\crxo.exe (file missing)

Open HJT and select Config, then Misc Tools... Use the "Delete an NT service" and paste that entire item into the dialogue... Follow the directions to fix...

Reboot and post a fresh log with the AboutBuster logs and as much detail as possible about what you have done and what happened...

Please respond to the following:

1) Have you run CWSHREDDER?:

2) Have you run the Symantec Removal tool?:

3) Did you remove the NT service with HJT?:

4) Can you set the homepage in IE and does it stay set?:

and then please post another log and let us know how your system is performing.
