Hello I am having a problem in WIN ME on shutting down the pc just freezes and wont shut down...I am pretty positive there is no virus I just installed it last week ...atleast I hope not! Any help would be appreciated!!

Turn off, one at a time, all programs that are running and then shut down, one of the running programs is probably what is hanging and not wanting to terminate.....in other words turn off one program, shut down, if it still hangs start back up, turn off another one and so on, do this for all running programs (even those running in the background)

There are many articles in the MSKB on shutdown problems (which all seemed to start with 98SE) you could take a look there also...

Thank you very much...1 more thing...any suggestions on virus protection that I can use until I actually purchase one..(this weekend will get one)

Dear Gammaboy,
is ur problem fixed?
iam having a similar poroblem with Me..i dont have it with Win 98...
my problem is..i cant shutdown Me..when i try to shutdown it ends up in a
bizzare screeen...and i have to shutit down manually...
rebooting and hibernating doesnt have any such problem.....

Dear SNVP...check out those links above and print out material...I have not used info on topic just yet but will keep you updated and have asked around office and heard that is a known problem in ME and it can be fixed..

The AVG yoda gave you above is for probably the best free AV app around...I even replaced my paid McAfee with it (my year was up and I didn't see the point of giving McAfee another $30).
