Hello everybody please help me with these.
I have two computers that can access the internet by using windows ICS.
I have just change windows xp home sp2 OS to xp prof. then this is the time I cannot connect to the internet even on the computer where the modem is directly connected to ADSL modem and sharing this connection. I check on the ipconfig and this is how it is shown:
marvell yukon ethernet adpter:
Connection-specific DNS. . : LAN (I dont know why its LAN the ADSL modem is directly connected to this adapter)
IP Address . . . . :10.0.0.1
Subnet Mask . . .: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway.: 10.0.0.138
I ping yahoo.com but it cannot find. Before the change in OS these are the datas I get when I check on the ipconfig except for the LAN on the connection-specific DNS. I tried to manually configure the TCP/IP settings and check the ipconfig the LAN will disappear but still cannot open any web page.
I already remove the ICS on the computer where the modem is connected and disconnected the second computer.

Please help me, thank you.

activity sent is more than the recieved

My PC has two adapter but the second one I did not use means no cable connected.

more sent than recieved... sounds like you need to post a hjt log in applications and security.

it sounds like you have adware that is leeching your bandwidth. can you use the internet on the machine with the modem when the two computers are not networked? (just out of idle curiosity)

No i cannot access the internet even though the ehternet adapter is showing connected. I already disconnected the second computer from my network. I connected the modem to only one PC, switch off the ADSL modem and on again still fail.

do you connect via PPPoE?

if so, go into the pppoe section and make sure in TCP/IP your address is set to dynamic (automatically assign IP)

and how did you say the modem connected to your computer?

I'm not sure but It obatained IP address automatically also DNS. The only thing different is when I check on the ipconfig there is a LAN shown which is not shown before. I am planning to uninstall the ethernet adapter and install again will this help?

in network connections... is it just two lan connections?

and does your modem connect to your computer via ethernet or by usb or serial?

have you tried plugging the ethernet into any other slots?
also another trick is to click on create new connection in the network connection window.
you want to "connect to the internet"
> "set up your connection manually"
> "connect to a broadband that is always on"
> "click finish"

did you ever used to have to connect using a username and password?

i tried to transfer the connection on both adapter, i reset the modem still no result, i will try to manually connect to the internet.
before we are using a userneme and password provided by the telephone company when our modem is USB type but when I requested for a change in modem to ethernet type we dont use username and password anymore

please tell me the brand and model of the modem you are using.

there was an issue a few months back where people were having their account name changed and the dialling properties modified. your modem may have had its settings modified.

you may need to re-enter your username and password to the modem.

if the modem is under some kind of warranty, you may need to speak to your ISP's technical support...

its something with the connectivity. the fact that your modem is assigning you some wierd ip address tells me that your modem's been reset
