A friend rang up to say she was having difficulty in loading a picture onto e-bay to help sell a tent. She is running Win 98. The picture was sent to her in an email from a friend who had the picture handy. His account was an AOL account. The picture was embedded in the email and despite reading the mail with Outlook Express, the picture itself did not show up as an attachment. I guided her on how to save it from within the mail using right mouse button and save as option, renaming to something meaningful. She saved it to the My Pictures folder in My Documents as prompted by OE.

When she went to e-bay to load the picture, it wasn't in the C:\My Documents\My Pictures folder. She did a search for the file using Explorer, and it said it was in C:\My documents\My Pictures, yet when this path was followed in e-bay it was not there. She confirmed it had been saved with a JPG extension, confirmed in Explorer.

I did not ask her if she logged on with a user name in which case I suppose the picture may have been stored in her Windows Profile version of the My Documents and My Pictures folder. I will ask her tomorrow as it is now midnight here. Though if it was in the Profiles folder, surely the search would have pulled up C:\Windows\Profiles\My Documents\My Pictures as the location.

Any clues as to why e-bay did not locate the photo?

Oh well a sleepless night now awaits.

I'll check your responses tomorrow.

Thanks.

I suspect that the file reference must have been wrong in some way or another. A bit of double-checking needed first.

It certainly sounds to me like the 'file saving' action went wrong. She must have failed to save the picture. I don't think eBay has a problem with uploading a pic if that pic is legitimate.

I agree. She did check in My Computer and found the file where it should to be with the name she saved it as. Looking in the same folder (apparently) in e-bay shows no files with anything resembling the same name. I am going to suggest she saves the file away from My Documents folders and put it directly in C:

If the file (picture) is in My Docs or some sub folder within and eBay cannot see it, my suspicion would be that the picture format is wrong for what eBay will accept.

Are we absolutely sure the pic is a jpeg or jpg? If from a scanner, it may be TIFF or bitmap, or if from a digital camera as same or other form of pic file.

Have her try another jpeg on her pc to upload to eBay just to verify it can be done. Then just cancel prior to finalizing the ad.
