I am looking forward to buying a laptop. Right now I am focused on a Gateway 7426GX....link to specifications:
Gateway Notebook with Mobile AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 3700+ , 64MB ATI Readon 9550, 1 GB RAM, 100GB Hard Disk, 15.4" WXGA TFT Screen

Here is the link:

The question is, can i get a better system for that price?

Are there any suggestions on your mind?

I want to use it for occassional gameing + Office applications + Media creation. And it has to be portable.

Would this be enough for you?

That acer costs almost the same but has these advantages and disadvantages:

Advantages:

1. Lighter weight
2. I hear Pentium M have better wireless
3. Better battery life

Disadvantages:
1. RAM is only 512
2. In one review it says it has Shared Video
3. HD is lesser by 20GB, am not sure if it is faster or not
4. Smaller Screen

So it is a "NO" for me.

I already have a Compaq with 16MB shared video and it is too bad I can't play the demo Halo. Now I never say yes to any laptops with Shared video.

Are there anyother in the same price range but with better features? <----This should have been my original question.

The shared video is no big deal as you have 512 MB of RAM. You also fail to note the OS in the ACER is XP PRO, way better than XP home. I also prefer Intel Pentium. And finally $1399.00-$1075=$320.00 that's not chump change.

They have other models, just this is a real good buy right now. Probably the best value on the market.

Look at:

I failed to notice XP Pro, but I already got a copy.

I already made up my mind long time ago that I will never buy a motherboard with integrated video or a notebook which says shared video memory. Just that I do not like the way it works.
