A little background:

During our visits to the Tapestries of Life orphanage in Mexico we visit a church in Anapra just outside of Cuidad Juarez to distribute clothing and food staples to familes in need.

On two of our visits a couple of folks brought those instant film developing cameras (e.g. Polaroid Spectra) to take photos of the families. For most of the families these keepsakes will be the only photos of their children they will ever get.

The excitement the photos generated got me to thinking about doing something similar with a laptop, camera, and portable printer.

So, my question to the group is what will I need to make this happen?

There are a couple of cameras available that have a little photo printer as a docking port that will download and print the pictures you want... I believe Kodak makes a few of those, but other companies have them as well.... I believe that BestBuy or Circuit City even has one on sale this week....

It's simple. Get a digital camera, and a portable printer. Many of the Canon models now feature PIXMA technology which allows instant printing.

I believe this would all depend my very excited printing friend. The deciding matter would be money. The most time consuming way would be to buy a camera and a dock that is also a printer all in one. Kodak makes one for about 96.00 on newegg.com (I will post the link at the bottom of the page, of course this is just the dock, camera and laptop extra! :D ) In my opinion this would be the best way and it's alot cheaper... You don't even need a computer!

A cheaper way is to buy the camera and plug it into your laptop and with the printer pluged in also print that way, but you need windows XP or a device driver (which should be the software that's in the box) installed into your machine. My personal favorite is the printer dock it is defenally worth the money and is alot cheaper than buying a small printer and not as much stuff to carry!
