well i want to know what makes a monitor better than another......... here i have copied some technical info from a 19" LCD monitor. can you please give me an example of spec that would make the monitor better?
for example the lower the pitch the better.......but why?
be sure to put an explanation of why it makes it better to so i can understand what does what......
thanks!

These are not great specs:

Pitch: 0.29 mm

Response Time: 25 ms

the pitch refers to the effective pixel size - the pixel itself and it's proximity to it's neighbours, so a smaller figure means that the pixels look less blocky because they are packed tightly together.
The response time is how long it takes for a pixel to go from black to white and black again (although some are now quoting grey - shades)
25ms is pretty slow now. 16ms is the norm, and 6ms is getting there. This makes all the difference when playing games or watching fast moving images, as a ghosting effect occurs on slower response rates.

wow......i feel so much smarter now........thanks!!!!!

now what about the other categories??

i play Counter strike and other games where i want the fastest movement possible and have a crisp image. but on the other hand i dont want to spend 600 on a monitor. i think 400 would be the absolute most i would put into a monitor at this time. and i need one BAD!!!(currently on a HP pavilion mx70)

i dont even have to have a flat panel.....a flat screen LCD , yes.

what else can anybody tell me?
deddard you seem very knowledgeable about the others....know anyhting else?

contrast ratio is a ratio of the brightest white to the darkest black tones... so, 600:1 means that the white will be 600 times brighter than the black... the bigger the number, of course, the better. the brightness is the brightness measured in candelas over an area... the bigger the number, the brighter! i can't say anything about what is a good spec, but i hope that gives you a little more knowledge in your search.
why not go to a computer store and demo a few monitors. you'll find that if someone is charging $200 more for a monitor, there IS a reason...

I have a video card (nVidia6800GT) that features a nice DVI port. When I bought the monitor I was so stupid to by a Samsung that only accept VGA. So now I'm connected through an adaptor And certainly I could have spent my money better. Hope this story could avoid this that I consider a mistake (some monitor have both VGA and DVI like some NEC models)

DVI is generally said to be much better; provided mobo has a DVI exit.....of course!
Unfortunately I cannot tell you how much is it better, I had not the opportunity  to make a comparison.

Apologies. I said ".........provided mobo has a DVI exit", while I should have said "the video card has a DVI exit"

Do you need the speakers in the monitor? If not look at this Acer AL1914:

not as bright
not as high contrast ratio
slower response time
still has speakers(who cares just dont use them)
smaller viewing angle
20 bucks less

would you really suggest that over the hyundai?? ;) the hyundai exceeds it in every aspect.

The only thing is what quality is the Hyundai?

I know the Acer is an excllent unit. I have 4 in the filed right now and they provide an outstanding picture.

Why are they selling a unit with those specs for that price? Unless they under price or over value nobody will buy their stuff....

majority of the people only buy name brand stuff......

the no namers have to keep their prices low to give attention.
sounds like its a winner from these guys.....
