I receive that message when I try to connect to the 'entire contents' under network.
I checked what services are running and nothing that should be running is stopped or disabled as far as I can see. I checked it twice.
I rebooted and no luck. The workgroup is the same and sharing is set for all drives.
This is 2k pro using a router with a DSL connection (internet access is ok) nothing fancy (no firewalls, etc.). I get the error from either computer, BUT from the 2nd box, shortcuts to drives on the first machine that were made some time back ARE visable!
I also tried M$'s site, but as usual couldn't find anything there with their lame search engine.

Did you set up user accounts for each user that log on from each computer?

Only one user on each computer with the same name and workgroup.

Assuming they are on the same IP Subnet and the Workgroup is the same... I would think it was a permissions issue. Can you ping the other computer via the IP Address? If so you can, simply add the "Everyone" to the Administrators group then reboot and see if it fixes the problem. If it does, it means you have permissions issues. You can take out the Everyone group from Administrators and then make sure you have the exact same user name and pass for both machines and they are members of a group that has access to the individual shares. If you are using NTFS permissions, i.e. you have a security Tab when you right-click, then click Properties on a shared folder, then make sure the username has access or is in a group that has access to that shared folder, drive.

It's my understanding that you can't have duplicate names on the network.
If you set up users on both computers and then give those users permission on the other systems you want to access. This sould work for you.

Here's an old post that might help you
http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=17352&highlight=%5C%5Ccomputername
It sounds like you are having browse list problems which really have nothing to do with any user permissions. Frankly i never use the net 'hood to access network resources. Instead I type \\computername (file:///computername) or \\ipaddresss (file:///ipaddresss) in the "run" window to open a window of shared resources on a networked computer.(NOTE: if that failed to work then your problems are not with the "browse list" but might be configuration errors within your network. So try those 2 commands as a troubleshooting tool and let us know if they fail to work )
I have another post with more detail on troubleshooting browser problems but i will need to find it :)
Good Luck and I hope this helps you in the meantime .:)
