First I tried to make changes to my system BIOS because of a problem I was having between an application and my display/video card on a new build.

I got into a situation where the machine would not boot and just gave me an annoying beep. Eventually (suggested by a forum member) I went into the machine and reset a jumper to clear the BIOS . I then ...reformatted my HD and started over.

For some reason ... the system will not allow me to install a VGA driver that comes with my DFI motherboard. In addition because the drivers will not install I cannot install the driver for the modem ..meaning I cannot get online.

Each time I try to install the driver for VIA Service Pack Hyperion 4 in 1 CD that came with the DFI motherboard ..it fails. At the end of the installation attempt I get a windows wizrad saying ..."found new hardware" that leads to nowhere. When I check my device manager I see a yellow "?" .

Following the wizard I cannot install what I was trying to install "automatically" NOR can I install it from a specifc location AS SUGGESTED BY THE WIZARD.

And If I try to install the driver for my AGP video card ..it aborts the installation telling me I need the VGA drivers to be installed first.

I am now trying to install windows XP from scratch ..(not an upgrade). This SOB worked when I installed WIN2000 before ..however because I still had the conflict with Application and the display .. I decided that it was not my operating system and decided to go back to XP. This time I wanted to do so from a reformatted disc rather than from a Win2K upgrade.

In addition when I upgraded fron win2000 to XP ..before installing these drivers ..2 weeks ago I had no problem ..why now?

Since the common denominater in all my problem is now the video card/drivers I want to buy another video card. However what got me into this mess in the first place was trying to save myself money. Can anybody provide some insight why or why not buying a new card will solve my problems? I'd hate to buy a new card ..waste more time ..spend more money only to find ..I still have the same problem.

If by the end of the week I have not fixed this problem .... I may buy a dell/e-machine/HP machine ...and GUT THIS STINKING PIECE OF CRAP .. for whatever usefull parts its got ( dvd/cd players, RAM) and write this off as an unintended $700 lesson!!

I cant get it to work. I read material guide that says ... DONT INSTALL THE DRIVER FOR THE ATI CARD UNTIL YOU'VE INSTALLED THE GART VGA DRIVER....

But while installing the GART drivers I see a note saying ...IF YOU HAVE A DRIVER FOR YOUR AGP CARD ... INSTALL IT FIRST!!

Then I go online and I read ... FORGET THE DRIVER THAT COMES WITH YOUR EQUIPMENT AND DOWNLOAD THE LATEST FROM THE INTERNET.

OK .. I go online with my old P3 and I read ... THESE DRIVERS ONLY WORK WITH SP2 for WIN XP.

SO .. I need to get to the internet to download SP2!

BUT to get to the F#@KING INTERNET I NEED TO HAVE SOME TYPE DRIVERS ...DON'T I!!

I call the vendors ..I get voicemails .. i leave message .. no response. I e-mail them .. No response ..or ... its not our fault!!

So tell me .. do I keep going down this road ..hoping that after I fix the next problem it will be the last ..or do I throw in the towel now? Do I keep hoping that another $40 or $50 will end this nightmare ..or do I stop now before this $700 hole grows into $1,500 ?

I swear to GOD ..I've reformatted my machine a million times already .. and each time .. each time .. the installation for Windows XP is different?

No 2 installation from a reformatted drive was ever the same? Every time I did it I get a new prompt or different sequence.

How can that be ... why in GODS name won't it allow me to install the GART drivers this time?
Why?

I thought it was supposed to wait until I installed the animation application before it starts to crap on me!! Now i can't even get there ...

1. PLEASE keep this in your ORIGINAL THREAD (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=36860) concerning this issue. I've already closed one spinoff thread and asked you not to post more threads.

2. Drop the profanity, it's not necessary and we have members here who have kids...young ones...I expect the language here to remain tame enough people do not have to worry about what their 7 year olds will see if they happen to walk in the room.
