Hi,

My PC is not able to power up. It was working fine a day before. And I did not do anything to my PC. Here's how the problem goes.

I switch on the main switch... switch on the PC.. the power led lights up a for a while(1 sec).... then went off....

I tried switching on again.... nothing happens....

I switch off the main switch... then switch on the main switch.... try switching on the PC again..... the power led lights up for a while(1 sec) then went off...

I tried switching it on again... then nothing happens.

seems like everytime i restart the main switch... the power led did light up a while but gone after a while..... anyone could tell me where the problem lies?? and how should i go about resolving the problem

1. Try a different wall outlet, or a different power strip/surge protector if you're using one. {And check the wall outlet)
2. Try a known working power supply or have yours checked.

If neither of those gets results, it could be a bad power switch, but that is very uncommon. I'm guessing bad power supply.

To me it doesnt sound liek a faulty PSU. The power down on a faulty PSU tends to be less consistant, in this case its closing down after a second. Faulty PSU's tend to die out-right or reset once too hot or too drained.

However, its easy to get a spare PSU and test it without causing too much heart-ache and cost.

The PSU is possibly responding to a fault with either the mainboard or the case switch and thus switching off to protect the rest of the system.

Faulty switches are rare, but not impossible by far. Try removing the switch and douse in switch spray "if you can get to the switch", otherwise, try removing the power switch cable from the mobo and bridge the power switch pins (VERY VERY CAREFULLY !!!!!) Maybe even try to replace the switch.

If the fault persists, then your next stop is most likely mobo.

Hope this helps.

Download a copy of my diagnostic flowcharts from here
www.erniek.eclipse.co.uk/downloads/sylvanderdiags.zip
and print them to leaf through.
Begin on the STARTUP chart.
You will probably be taken to the NO POST chart to try a "bare-bones boot".

Nice charts Sylvander! Any chance I can post them in my Recycle Bin to help my members? Obviously it will be credited to you and a link to your site will be arranged if you like.

Your welcome to do anything you like with them so long as it's legal and doesn't come back on me.
Alter/improve them, just don't call them mine if you change them. :)
