this pc ran great for 3years, until the other day when it would not shut down, tried on /off afer windows shut down and it would not tried reset and the same. turned ps off and that worked.
then wheni turn the ps back on it starts up but does not boot.
from there i tried removing drive ribbons , nic card, then the ram, and cpu, each time turning it on with ps and try to turn off with on/ off switch .with the cpu out it shut off with the switch.(not that on was any kind of beep or post, or display) then i tried putting back the cpu ram ect . each time trying to start with the on switch, the power come on and goes off 2 seconds later . any ideas ? thanx in advance. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif mrb

I had the same board and processor, still have the processor. If you unplug it from the wall for about 15 to 20 minutes, it will restart using the buttons. Finally replaced the power supply, then the board went bad. That board was a picky board to me it did things it was not suppose too. Try that.

You might want to try a different power supply Or if you have an ATX pwr.supply tester un hook the pwr.supply from the board plug in the tester and see if it stays on.or you can search google for a pin out and use a jumper cable to test the supply that way. When you say you were turning this off? on a soyo board there are two possable ways to turn it off using the shut down command in the start menu, or pressing pwr.button and holding down for over 5 seconds to shut down comp. If you hold the button for less than 5 sec. then it will enter suspend mode? Not good to shut it down any other way.Have you changed the CMOS battery in the 3 years you've owned it?

wingjumper,

Unfortunately it doesn't appear that any Motherboards out there have any "batter low" warnings. Trying to head the resulting problems from a low battery at the pass, it would perhaps be wise to routinely replace every 3-4 years.

You're right though, it would be nice to have a way to keep an eye on how it's doing! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
