Hi,
Can anyone help me? I'm kinda new at this, I'm trying to capture a video from a Sony Hi8 cam to my PC via S-Video cable. I get a great image but NO audio!? I have a Pennacle PCTV Vision capture card and haven't had any problem capturing from my VCR. I've tried the Pennacle site and they're less helpful than my dog! I offered to transfer this project onto DVD for a friend by Monday but I'm not being to successful.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have 2 cables connected? One for video, the other for audio? Also you may need one to go from the capture card/box to your soundcard line-in.

No, just a single S-video cable. According to the "manual instructions" I can use either the S-Video input alone or a composite video input, I use the latter for my VCR I don't have a composite cable for the camcorder (its not even mine). Shouldn't the S-Video cable be enough since the camera is all set up for it? I'm baffled.

On my Handicam there is an S-video and an audio jack so I need to use 2 cables. One rca to rca which connects to an adapter to CVBS connection on the capture card and also an rca to 1/8th inch audio cable also to the capture card. Then there is an 1/8" to 1/8" cable from the card to my audio line in so there is 3 in all.
My camera is analog so I don't know if a digital one would hook up differently.
Oh, and a 'better late than never' welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif forums!
I only managed to capture 4 movies and one song with mine before it died :( Got another 'improved' one on order at this time.

I know I'm going to sound like a dunce but, like I said, the camera isn't mine and I don't have the instruction manual.
Are you referring to the A/V out? I'm assuming that that is Audio/Visual...?

Sony (http://esupport.sony.com/perl/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=DOCS&PRODTYPE=33) has a good list of manuals for many of their models at their site.
I got my manual from there. As I said, mine is analog with only a pair of RCA jacks to connect to. I hope you find a manual for the one you are using there too.

Thanks for all the info. I did get the manual from the site you suggested. I think I'm just going to hook it up to my VCR and then onto the my PC, not as good a quality but I've spent a whole day trying to figure this one out and this is the best I came up with.
Thanks again, you've been a great help.
