As far as I can determine, MS Works is needed to open .wps files, or a converter to allow opening with MS Word - but I don't have either program.

Is there another way to open such files?

Almost any Windoze based word processor will have the option of installing filters to translate files for most of the common word processors... Which one do you use??

I don't use a word processor.

I was e-mailed a .wps file which is only of passing interest to me, so was hoping there might be alternative way of opening it.

Well, you could try to use WordPad and open as a text file, but it will contain a lot of unusual characters and be somewhat difficult to read... There is at least one open source free word processor you could download and use as well... I believe it is called Open Office (or something similar)...

Thank you for all suggestions. However, I was able to obtain the same file in .doc format and open with MS Word Viewer 2003.
