Hello again,
Can someone guide me with the method of checking or formating the hard drive for this machine, with it removed from the case and using another computer? I believe the hard drive is IDE.
Thanks in advance

If the HDD is made by Maxtor, go to their site and download the utility to test/format it. If the drive is made by Western Digital, go to their site. Same with Hitatchi or Fujitsu.
Who made yours?
If you wish to test connected to a desktop, you will need an adapter cable to connect a laptop drive to the desktop.

The Drive Was Made By Hitachi. Where Can I Get The Adapter Cable And What Port Is Used For The Connection?

The drive utility to test it is here:

You would use an adapter board to make a notebook drive run in a desktop system using an IDE cable like any other HDD. I will search the forums for hints on the adapter boards.

Thanks for the help. i have found some info on a drive cloning package. There is a case which holds the hard drive and a usb cable to connect it to another pc, also included is the software to make the drive act as a ghost? Is this what i am looking for?

Drive imaging is also commonly known as "ghosting".
This is accomplished by software that makes an exact compressed image of the HDD partitions. This lets you take that copy and install it on another HDD or burn to CD-ROM/DVD or save to a network drive. When installed on a new or zeroed HDD, it makes the new drive function exactly like the old drive so the computer is completely restored, including all of your programs and data.
or
You can format the current drive and reinstall Windows and all the drivers via a Gateway Restore CD or from a hidden partition on the current HDD if it can still be accessed, but all your data will be lost, and all your programs would need to be reinstalled.
Both of these methods can be done without requiring removal of the HDD itself from the notebook PC.
