My notebook has a few buttons, just below the keyboard where one can play music or movies without having to manually open a multimedia prog. like WMP.
But recently and suddenly there is no response from these buttons, when trying to play media files. Additionally, around that same time my computer doesnt seem to be able any longer to automatically open and play dvds. (the rom does successfully play music cds and automatically opens them) Again, jus a sudden occurrence. What do u guys think is goin on?

It could be caused by malware or a virus. It could also be simply caused by the key no longer being associated with the function.
I would suggest downloading HijackThis (http://www.merijn.org/) and unzip into a fresh folder, then scan the PC and copy/paste the log here in the Applications and Security forum so we can see if malware is the cause.
It would not hurt to run a scan with AdAwareSE or Spybot Search & Destroy and an online AV scan with Housecalls (http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp).

I doubt its a virus or malware because i routinely scan with adaware and spybot s&d in addition to norton anti-v. And there has consistently been nothing found. Hijack this log also seems quite clean. So i do think that is has something to do with ure later suggestion. If it is, how do u suggest i go about addressing that issue? thankz again for ure help.
