I was wondering if anyone had encountered this problem before and if so did the find a resolution?
I recently installed AVG free on a computer I was cleaning up for a friend. They had no virus protection before and were loaded with trojans and viruses. After cleaning and removing all the infections found, the computer owner tried to run the avg scan on her profile once she got it home, [the scan and clean up was done on her daughters profile], she lost power to the computer, [a breaker tripped] half way thru the scan, [it had found a virus in their docs], when she rebooted and tried to enter her profile it would not allow her password and said something to the effect that her user profile was unloadable. Has anyone else encountered this? Or would anyone know how to get this profile back? The restore feature in xp was turned off because we were also removing the tons of spyware and adware her computer was infected with so this is not an option. Thank you for any help you may have for us and have a great day!

Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif forums.

If you have XP, you can attempt to repair the OS, though I doubt it will work

Assuming you are using XP or 2K you can find the documents and settings in the

C:\Documents and Settings\User name\ folder. Copy the information from that folder to a different folder on the disk.

Delete the user and re-create it.

Then copy the folders over one at a time and see how much you can salvage.

Alternatively, you could provide us with the exact error message and we could research that for you.

Thank you so much for the advice......lol, but this time I actually have a client that listened to me.....she decided the things in her docs were not that important and brought it back for a total reformat. It amazes me that people don't realise how screwed up their computers can get without protection...that's why I have pages of information on computer maintenence I hand out to people who call me about their puter problems.
I've been browsing your site for some time and finally got up the nerve to ask a question........I just wanted to say thanks...you all have helped me numerous times with problems that have come up....thanks again and have a great day ya'll! ;)

If you can login as any other user, you can save her documents. It's really that easy. To reformat value data that can be easily retrieved is poor customer service, IMHO.....

As the old saying goes...........been there done that lol. We tried that, didn't work. As for poor customer service.....I will work to resolve any issue that comes up untill it is taken care of. I do the best with what knowlege I have and if I do not know something...I research, ask, read...etc untill I can I can come up with a solution. And as stated previously...I thank you all for the help you have given me in the past. Have a great day!
