View Full Version : Backdoor.Doyorg -- Help!

Norton detected the Backdoor.Doyorg virus on my computer, quarantined it, but cannot fix it. Should I assume I am still infected and need to remove it? I guess I got it through AOL IM, as a friend had a virus that sent me the "Hey check this out" message and like a fool I checked it out (but never opened anything). Never had heard of AOL IM spreading viruses so assumed it was a legit message from her. Oh well.
I'd appreciate any reply, any help. I'd hate to infect anybody else and I don't want to screw up my comp!
I'm running Windows XP Home.
thanks,
Jericho

You will need to run some more scans to know if you are infected... I suggest running an online virus scan and spyware scans with Spybot and Ad-Aware SE after updating them... Follow-up with an HijackThis scan and post it here...
To run HJT, extract it to a permanent folder such as one
you create like C:\HJT. Close all open windows and
browsers and make sure that all programs are enabled if
you use msconfig. Run it and Scan, then Save the log.
When the log window appears, Right click to Copy it, open
your browser and come here to Paste the entire log. Do
not make any changes until it is checked since most items
are either benign or essential to the computer.

Also this is a link to Symantec's notes on the infection:

You might also want to have a look at Symantecs removal instructions HERE (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.doyorg.html) .
EDIT: Boy, I'm getting old and slow... ;)

Your log looks clean... are you still having any problems??

No problems that I know of... I guess I'll assume I'm ok until something shows up! My fear was that I might infect others on AOL IM. I'll post here if I have problems... thanks again for the help! It's always appreciated. :)

Armor up to prevent those kinds of things from happening... Here is my prevention speech...
This is a good time to set up protection against further
attacks. Read the article linked below about "How did I
get infected". You need an antivirus that is updated, a
good firewall (a router firewall is not enough) and a
spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads.
All of these have good free versions available... be very
cautious about any security software that advertises in
popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually
useless, but also often have malware in them....
