I have a CTX monitor VL710 model # and I'm having a bit of difficulty installing the required driver for this monitor.

I downloaded a zip file with a driver close to my model for Windows XP ..but how do you execute the software? What is a "ICM" file? Thats all I see in the files downloaded CTX-----.icm files and one ".inf" file which is a note pad file with gibberish I hope don't have to get into.

Also since I have a generic driver XP ... do I uninstall the generic driver first then install this downlaod file ..or should I fisrt install the downloaded driver and then un-install the generic driver?

Again .. this all started because I have a situation where this animation application I'm using slows down as I increase the size of the picture on my monitor.
I've done all I can as far as the video card and CPU are concerned .. they are working properly ..so the last thing I can check is the monitor/driver.

SAMPLE:
Monitors don't use drivers but, rather, there is a monitor information file used by the operating system to implement the Plug & Play feature of Windows 95 and Windows 98.
Download the file NECMSINF.ZIP to your hard drive.
Create a new folder on your hard drive and extract the ZIPPED files to it.

for Windows 98:
Select the SETTINGS tab in your "Display Properties" window.
Click on the ADVANCED button.
Click on the MONITOR tab.
Click on the CHANGE button, Click on NEXT.
Select the "Display a list of all drivers" option. Click NEXT.
Click on the HAVE DISK button
Click on BROWSE to look in the folder you created for the zipped files.
Click OK in the OPEN window
Click OK in the Install From Disk Window
Select the "Show All Hardware" option.
Select your monitor, click NEXT.
In the Update Driver window you should see you monitor type and the location of the profile listed. Click NEXT
Click Finish
Click Close

i Don't think the *.icm file will improve your situation,
believe it fine tunes the colors the monitor displays.

Thanks for the information however ... where do i get this "NECMSINF.ZIP " file you mention above?

Also ..when I click on the advance tab from the settings tab I am sent to a .."PLUG AND PLAY MONITOR RADEON 9250 Properties" windows. (My video card is ATI ..AGP 128M and installing the latest driver for this card changed my configuration when i go to advance)

Still I have a monitor tab but only a "properties" button and I guess I can get to the prompts you are sending me to in your instructions from there ....but again I don't know what/where /how this "NECMSINF.ZIP " is.???

That ".inf" file is the IMPORTANT one!
You could right-click on that and click "Install", but if it's the wrong driver you might be in trouble, so:
Safer to boot into safe mode, go to "Device Manager" and "Remove" all instances of monitor devices [there may be multiple "ghost" copies].
Reboot the PC and Windows will detect "New hardware found" and ask for the driver. Tell it to find a suitable driver. Point the wizard at the folder or drive [good to copy the files to a floppy and "Browse" to that] holding those files.
Just follow the prompts and the wizard should report that a suitable driver has been found. Give it the go-ahead to install.

You may be asked to supply your Windows installation files [but probably not].
If you installed from a CD in a CD-drive of a certain drive letter you'd need to put the Windows CD in a CD-drive that now has that same allocated letter.
I copy the Windows files to a HDD partition and install from there, then leave the files there, so I have none of that hassle. The files are automatically fetched from there if needed.
