Just bought a new PCCHIPS M825G (AMD) motherboard. The BIOS setting for "ACPI Aware O/S" is set to "Yes". There are no other similar power management settings. Since everything is new, I installed Win-XP Pro from scratch.

When I put it in standby, the power supply fan and CPU fan stay on. Did I buy too cheap of a motherboard or is there possibly something I can change in software?

Don't change anything.
Those two fans need to run.
The cpu gets hot even in standby .

In stand by the system is running.. Just Very slowly ..

I have 2 other machines that I put into standby 2-3 times a day and they have been running fine; one for months, the other for years. I've never seen the case or CPU heatsink even get warm while they're in standby.

I guess I would have to upgrade the motherboard to a better brand to get the fans to stop in standby. I was hoping there was a software trick.

No, I bought it from NewEgg. At this point, I think the power management built into the motherboard is the problem and even a BIOS revision could not likely provide a solution. :(

I think the power management built into the motherboard is the problem and even a BIOS revision could not likely provide a solution. Bummer....

FYI, I had the clock jumper set wrong initially. My AMD Sempron was running at 1.2GHZ instead of 2GHZ. You may want to make sure you're getting your money's worth from your processor. The documentation for this is ..... a little vague to say the least.
