I have just come back from computer store near where I am living. I found a $1100 notebook with no FDD, no DVD drive, 60Giga, 256Hz. Is it worth the money when my purpose is not to use it for programming but mainly for internet access instead? Thank you in advance...

Buy it, its cheap i think.
