Hi i am current running a Dell 2.66 with 1gb of ram.

Graphics i current have is a Extreme graphics something something and my friend gave me one of his graphics like a 128 mb Geforce 4mx or something from Nvidia and after that i try to installing the driver i d/led from the nividia site it said " The NIVIDIA setup program could not locate any driversthat are compatible with ur current hardware." But when i put in my graphics card and i connect my monitor to the graphics card nothing shows up. When i unplug it and replug it back into my original moniter slot nothing shows, but after i turn off my computer and take out the new graphics card and replug it into my old graphics card my moniter works again. I really do not know how to fix it. Is it the BIOS or something i don't know.

Dells and other OEM machines can be tricky... You'll have to find out if the onboard video can be disabled at all. It may be a jumper or two on the mobo itself, it may be a BIOS setting, it may be both, or it may automatically disable itself when you install the new card. Also, are you sure you got the right drivers? I mean, are they the latest WHQL ones straight from NVidia's site for your version of Windows?

The next steps to take when installing a dedicated vid card over onboard video is to make sure Windows knows not to use the onboard video anymore. Uninstall the driver (using Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel) while in Safe Mode. Then go into Device Manager and manually disable the onboard video entry. Shut down. Install the new vid card and connect the monitor to it. If you see the POST screens during boot-up, then your new vid card will work (try installing the NVidia drivers again). If not, there's some other issues we have to work out...
