BIOS - wrong binary; Tbird SLOT A

well, it happens once in a while. I did render my motherboard unusable. it turned out to be different from what it was sold to me. Im looking for confirmation of the following procedure:
1. take out the messed up chipset from the motherboard
2. put the chip on another computer while still working /with the same MB/
3. reprogram with appropriate binary file...

can I be sure this will not damage the other motherboard?

the CPU is Athlon Thunderbird for slot A. does anybody know a motherboard that supports it well...
currently it is with DFI AK70 and win2000 often spits errors, the games hang up all the time - [RESET] /VGA: geforce 256/

it wasnt stable with the old motherboard eighter: BCM QS754 /i had hard time finding out what it actually is after messing it up/.

Chipsets are an integral part of the MB, and I believe that they cannot be swapped out. If the MB is bad, replace it.

If you were able to over write the old Bios info and your thinking about using another M/B to reprogram the Bios chip.
Forget it.
When you install the damaged / bad chip into the second M/B it will Not boot.

If you are thinking of attempting to swap the chips while the system is running.
DON’T you will damage the system.

The safest way to precede is Contact the manufacturer and ask for a new Chip preprogramed

The "hot swap" technique you are asking about is very dangerous and you will most likely end up with 2 dead boards instead of one...and it can only be attempted with 2 of the exact same boards. It is not recommended except in extreme cases when no other options at all exist. The best chance, if your board does not have a boot-block BIOS (which will still allow you to boot to a floppy) is to order a new BIOS chip. If you can still boot to a floppy then grab the proper BIOS file for the motherboard and try again.

The BIOS chip is not the same as the chipset.

MJC, If you do have a bootblock BIOS what is the procedure for flashing a BIOS using it?
