Go to Tools | Options | Fonts and Display
and check the box "Show Toolbar " and, if you want to, check the box " Show
Toolbar tips " OR Right click on the Status Bar (the grey bar at the very bottom of the window) and click on Toolbar when the menu comes up.And the LOCK TOOLBAR

You can also try hitting the <f11> to see if by any chance you are in "full screen" mode...<f11> is the oggle for it.

Hi zammo and welcome to The PC Guide Forums.
If you are running IE 6.0 go to View-->toolbars-->ckick on address bar to put a ckeck next to it. Do the same for standard buttons.

as: "i can't see the file, edit, view drop down menus etc...."
.....this person can not access the view, edit, or tools part.
Either it's as mjc suggested or they need to run the IE repair tool found in control panel>> add/remove programs>> internet explorer.

Hi Zammo and Welcome.
I guess if you can't see the MenuBar you can't get to any options. Are any of the toolbars showing (buttons, links, radio, address)?
The only quick reference to this that I could find is here (http://www.simdynasty.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=47) so I have to ask which version of IE are you using and when did this start.
Have you tried repairing IE (add/remove then IE then repair) and the best chance of this working is to do it in safe mode.
You could also try ControlPanel<>InternetOptions; GeneralTab and "Use Blank" ProgramsTab and "Reset Web Settings"
Maximising the window and resetting screen resolution should do no harm.
Another thought is to run an antivirus scan.
If you can open Windows Explorer and it has the normal MenuBar and Toolbars you should be able to go View<>Toolbars and enable AddressBar and then at least be able to browse, for now, by entering a url in the AddressBar.
Let us know how you get on.
