Well everyone, it seems that both ATI and Nvidia have released their 512 mb video cards. Something that I find interesting is the fact that ATI decided to use the X800 XL instead of the XT or even the X850. Its a nice decision though, the Nvidia card is approx. twice the price!
Any impressions on these two cards/ideas.
Oh and ATI is making their own dual card solution! Yes, something for Nvidia to worry about. That should lower prices! :p

Yeah, the 512 cards should have some impressive specs. Do you know if the X800 512mb card is avalible to the public?

BFG 6800Ultra is the only one available at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143028). You can be the first to own one for only $884 plus tax and shipping.
Wow. That's a fistful o' dollars.

Well, like Pop Pop said, BFG has released a 512 MB version of the Geforce 6800 Ultra. ATI isn't manufacturing the cards themselves, they are getting other manufacturers to do that (MSI, GIGABYTE, SAPPHIRE). I havn't seen them released anywhere in the US, up here in Canada some stores are taking orders and expect to ship the cards towards the end if May.
$884 for the 6800 Ultra vs $449ish for the X800 XL.... and the performance difference isn't very large. (And the ATI card is better for non gaming 3d work)

Depends on the interface, budget, and use. nVidea 6800GT PCIe16 w/256MB ($349) or ATI X800XL PCIe16 w/256MB ($330) would be my starting points. You can go up or maybe preferably down from there in terms of price/performance

I find the ATI cards are extremly overclockable and very dependable. The X800 XL is my favorite card for price/performance balance.
