Greeting:

first time poster.

I purchased a Dell Dimension 4600C in 2/04 and yesterday my computer shuts off on me. Upon restarting it I receive the following message:

alert previous shutdown thermal error, alert previous shutdown fan
press f-1 to continue, f-2 for setup. After a while the computer shut off again.

i opened up the unit and the side fan seems to be running okay. There is a brushless fan that looks like a a big black scotch tape dispenser and this does not seem to be running (I don't know much about this as to whether it should be or if it is some type of back-up fan that kicks)

Any guidance is greatly appreciated. I called Dell. My warrantly ran out two months ago.

Thanks,

Shane Gilreath

Hello and Welcome to PCGuide...

I moved your thread because it was in the wrong forum... Please read the description of the forum before starting a new thread...

As for the fan... A new fan only costs a few dollars and is fairly easy to install... See here if you need help on how to do it:
