wingjumper,
Is this the HDD from your other system?

what is the least i can start a system up with? I've the same processor in my machine, is it worth trying a switch on them, i tried with just power to cd and extra fan on 4pin, no ribbons on board or drives, then all i get is power supply fan none of the normal pop and chatter.mrb
Try just the CPU (with the fan), video card and RAM, with the board sitting on a piece of cardboard. It sounds like either something is shorting out or the board is hitting something in side the case.

Go all over it again with the board out of the case.....1. Try taking out your RAM sticks and reseating them.
2. If that does not fix the problem and you have more than one bank of RAM, take out the first bank of RAM and move the second bank of RAM to the first bank's slot (leave the first bank of RAM out and then power up your PC to test it) -you may have a bad SIMM or DIMM. If the RAM you had in bank two works fine in bank one's slot, then the RAM that was in bank one is bad.
3. If both solutions fail, replace your motherboard.
No primary video detected. The video card may not be plugged in correctly. See Da Video Card for instructions on how to adjust the way the card sits in the socket. Make sure no other cards are plugged in next to the video card (to eliminate the possibility of an IRQ Conflict). If all else fails, replace the video card. This is why you are getting 1 long two short beeps//
make sure the memory is in the proper slots if you only useing one stick make sure it is in the #1 slot. And you are sure you have grounded your self good when playing with the memory? I would almost have to say you got a bad board if none of this is working? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
