A long time ago I found a FAQ about flashing the BIOS on the Internet. The site I found it at is no longer up but I did print it out at the time because something was of interest on it. I recently found it again...amid the sea of paperwork surrounding my desk. In the FAQ it mentions that flashing a BIOS is actually a rather stressful operation to the chip itself. It specifies that most modern chips are rated to accept as many as 30 or more flashes, but because of the stress involved on the chip, a failure could result simply becuase the chip itself has failed.
Does anyone have any information or know where I could find something about this?

No, I don't have any specific info, but probably the best place to check would be the chip spec sheets, they can usually be found on the chip makers sites...just run a google search on a chip it should turn up some info on it and contact information.
This (http://www.google.com/search?q=W29C020C&sourceid=mozilla-search) is a search on just one chip.....
