View Full Version : Major ACPI BIOS PROBLEM
To make a long story short, I started having problems with my computer a couple of hours ago. It kept saying it found new hardware and my monitor was not right, kept asking for monitor drivers and had only 16 colors available and could not be changed. Went to system and found a yellow exclamation mark by the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface bios.
It tells me that under device status windows could not load the driver for this device because the computer is reporting two acpi.sys bus types
(code 2) Contact your manufactuer to get an updated bios for your computer. I need suggestions to correct this problem? This is a Asus P3B-F
with version 1006 bios. Also what may have caused this problem?

Yep, I was installing a webcam, IBM , and software. The software install
went ok until the very last when it just quit although It stated software
install complete. Then we installed the usb camera as per instructions but
it was never recognized because my Win98SE kept looking for a USB driver.
It found that driver, on the Win98 cd but kept looking for yet another driver for hardware and then gave a big yellow exclamation mark about unknown hardware. It then began to give me looking for file acpi.sys.can not find, I just hit ignore just trying to get out of the mess. Also kept searching for powerd.vxd and several others but as I looked under driver file details all of those it kept looking for are listed.Uninstalled all software after we realized something major was happening. Only left the netmeeting software. What would happen if the driver ACPI was deleted and
a new one extracted from the cd?

just do a scanreg /restore
boot to command prompt only Option 6 by pressing F8 at start up before windows loads.
at the prompt type: scanreg_/resore with the underscore representing a spa_ce.
when you get to the dates, choose one day before this failed install occured, no further back.

just a bad install, did you have your active virus scan disabled when installing?
you should, also try not running any other programs at all, and lastly on my USB cam it said to wait to plug it in until prompted by the install software wizard.

Software was installed first then plugged in USB webcam as per instructions
I keep thinking it was something else that occurred, that I really didnt
catch in time and when doing the installation, it all went south. As I am
a gluton for punishment, probably will try again to see for sure. Thanks
for your help
