I'm having an interesting problem when trying to activate some of the security features on my wireless router. I've got the linksys wireless-B running on XP.

If I have the security disabled, everything connects fine. As soon as I turn on the WPA PSK, my laptop has trouble getting fully connected. I get the Limited access message saying it's having trouble acquiring a network address. I've checked, and rechecked the passwords and settings (changed em, started from scratch with a new network connection) and nothing seems to work. The signal is there but it can't get fully connected.

If I disable the WPA security, and just run it on restricted MAC addresses, things work fine, but I'd like to have the WPA working as well.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Did you run the wireless network wizzard?

Have you contacted Linksys tech support?

Run wizard many times.

Removed and added that wireless connection many times.

It can see the signal, just won't connect all the way when the password security features are turned on. All settings on the router and laptop match (ie. TKIP, etc.)

The last thing I want to do is spend time on the phone with tech support. Just hoping that someone out there has run into this same problem. I guess I'll just have to turn off the security for the time being.

I have had great experience with Linksys tech support. They did not keep me on hold long and they have been able to solve many of my issues.

tech support would be the best way to go. out of idle curiosity (or maybe something more) does the laptop have a static or dynamic IP?

It's set to obtain the IP address dynamically.

I'll try the linksys tech support soon.
