You mean copy protecting the disks?
What's the technology behind that? Can it lead to compatibility problems with older cd-rom drives (trying to read outside of standard parameters)?
I guess this means goodbye to quick installs from the HD...

Many companies nowadays, specificallly the music industry, have been trying various copy protection schemes-to date none work more than briefly before the are circumvented.
There is already a provision in the works to redefine the digital mellinium act because civil rights proponents have shown that such restrictive acts by these companies are violating basic consumer rights.
it's gotten to the point where the companies are treating basic customers as pirates. In such they are in danger of cutting off the very hand that feeds them. They continue to overprice products ( MS is a prime example of this ), and wonder why individuals are willing to circumvent the law.
But, the true point here is, is that no matter how much they try to cp an item, someone will always find a way around it.
Ever wonder why no one pirates Linux?

Heres a link, its written by John Dvorak. He is very opionated but on some issues he is right on the money. Other issues he sometime, well usual, steps out of the realm of what he knows and just says absurd stuff.
