Download HijackThis, (http://www.subratam.org/main/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=41) and do the following:

To run HJT, extract it to a permanent folder such as one
you create like C:\HJT. Close all open windows and
browsers and make sure that all programs are enabled if
you use msconfig. Run it and Scan, then Save the log.
When the log window appears, Right click to Copy it, open
your browser and come here to Paste the entire log. Do
not make any changes until it is checked since most items
are either benign or essential to the computer.

Then wait for one of the experts (Budfred, et al) to advise you.

Oh...and Welcome to PCGuide.

You came to the right place.

Paul Willican,
I would wait for more comments from the likes of Budfred, David Eaton, or Classicsoftware before removing stuff. I did notice your Java is out of date, you may want to update it after this gets cleaned up.

Looks like Rick is going to pick them off one by one... :D

Paul, you are running HJT from your temp folder. At some point here you are going to want to clean out that folder and you're going to loose HJT and the backup folder it creates. First thing, you should move HijackThis.exe to a permanent location. The Desktop, My Documents or anywhere else you like would be fine.

Then have HJT fix the following:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D6FA7BB5-E901-EAA5-7753-EF5B242160E7} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\plsv.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F5F6637D-123F-4299-A30B-759AADE80301} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\jeea.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [cjxPB] C:\documents and settings\otis\local settings\temp\cjxPB.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [JTdz0dr] C:\documents and settings\otis\local settings\temp\JTdz0dr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sZzjX] C:\documents and settings\otis\local settings\temp\sZzjX.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [qgYcG] C:\documents and settings\otis\local settings\temp\qgYcG.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OyQcnnJv.exe] c:\windows\system32\OyQcnnJv.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [d4jlCnWCl] C:\windows\system32\d4jlCnWCl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [98D0CE0C16B1] rundll32.exe D0CE0C16B1,D0CE0C16B1
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Jdsdtbq] C:\WINDOWS\System32\??anregw.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [System] C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
O16 - DPF: {1D0D9077-3798-49BB-9058-393499174D5D} - file://c:\counter.cab
O20 - Winlogon Notify: drct16 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drct16.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: ntfs32 - ntfs32.dll (file missing)

Then reboot into safemode and find and delete:

cjxPB.exe
JTdz0dr.exe
sZzjX.exe
qgYcG.exe
OyQcnnJv.exe
d4jlCnWCl.exe
rundll32.exe D0CE0C16B1,D0CE0C16B1
??anregw.ex
C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
drct16.dll

Then reboot and run a virus scan at TrendMicro (http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp) .

Then download, update and run both AdAware and Spybot Search & Destroy fixing all that they find.

Finally, reboot and post a follow up HJT log.

I rather suspected that might happen! No problem, we just do it a different way.

It would be as well to print out this reply, as most of the fix will be done in safe mode.

1) Please download the Killbox (http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip).
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then reboot into Safe mode. To access safe mode, see this link (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001060608000039)

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drct16.dll

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

After rebooting, have Hijack This fix all of the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and hitting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [System] C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe

O20 - Winlogon Notify: drct16 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drct16.dll

Reboot normally.

Please post a followup Hijack this log, and say if your problems persist.

Hi Paul,

You have done a good job so far but now is the time for a frank discussion. These two entries are a real problem.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [System] C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe

O20 - Winlogon Notify: drct16 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drct16.dll

This particular svchost.exe file is part the Troj/LdPinch-AU trojan. It is a keylogging, password stealing exploit that steals credit card info. If you have EVER bought anything online with this computer, you should think about contacting your credit card company and canceling your card. Get a new one. You can get some more info on this trojan Here (http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojldpinchau.html) .

Next. drct16.dll is "added by the Troj/Haxdoor-CN rootkit infection. This file is installed as system driver and is used to hide processes, files, and registry keys from being seen." Rootkits are notoriously hard to clear. Some of the guys here might know a way to clear this up. I don't usually bother. You can find some more info Here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/drct16.dll-8984.html) .

You are running XP without even SP1 installed. Usually that indicates a bootleg version that can't be updated but sometimes the user has a different reason for not updating.

Seeing that you have been running without the protection of the XP service packs and considering the types of problems you have encountered, I'd suggest you think about a format and reinstall of the OS.

If you don't want to go the reinstall root we can try to finish cleaning this up. Let us know.

EDIT: ooops. Maybe I should refresh before posting... ;)

You're looking pretty good, Paul. You will notice that HJT now reports the drct16.dll as "file missing". That's a good thing. I'd suggest running HJT once a day for the next few days and watch for the reappearance of the various problem entries.

You might as well stick with the version of XP that you have. Following David's advice has you cleaned up pretty good. I don't think installing your fathers copy is a good idea. A retail copy is only good for one computer. It will stop working after 30 days if installed on a second computer (unless you can crack the activation procedure).

Don't worry about your files. The type of malware you have had on your computer doesn't usually effect data files. That said, it's always a good idea to back up anything you don't want to loose. Backing up your files to CD or DVD is a very good idea.

What do you mean by "i still cant right click on my desktop"?

That's looking a lot better, but the O23 is still in your log. There may still be something lurking there that needs removal.
Let's try this: -

Please download SilentRunners from here:
http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%20Runners.zip
Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it. If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run. When the scan is finished, it will create a logfile on the desktop. Please post the entire contents of this logfile for me to see.

like i try to right click on my desktop and nothin happens and when i place an item on the desktop it creates a duplicate of it self on the desktop
OK. I've seen this before but I don't have a good remedy. Probably some corruption caused by the malware. I usually just reformat and reinstall at this point but with your situation that's not an option.

You're in good hands with David. Hang in for his response. Keep in mind that he is on the west coast of Europe and it is quite late there. We have a few guys who might pick up where David left off.

That shows a couple of things that need removal from the registry.

Go to Start> Run, and type Regedit into the box. Click on OK.

In regedit, navigate to the key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\SharedTaskScheduler\
"{38D4D5D0-423E-4220-B6F9-30918C2AE4A4}"
and delete it.
Also find and delete the key in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\ that refers to drct16.dll.

That should clean out the last of the malware, but I begin to think that Steve is correct in that Windows has been corrupted somewhere, and a reinstall is the only way to be completely certain that everything is OK.

You never finished your last thread... your system is still vulnerable and you never posted a final HJT log to analyze... I can split this HJT log off to a new thread since it is not a good idea to start a new problem in an old unfinished thread... In the meanwhile, I suggest that you post a fresh HJT log from the first computer to make sure it is clean and learn about setting it up to prevent future problems....
