I mac slow at startup

I have this imac. Every time i start it up, it will get to the desk top and stop. i have to wait ten minutes for it to allow me to work.

Check that your hard drive has been choesen in the "startup disk" control panel. This is the most likly cause of your problem.

You could also set all control panels back to factory defaults.(hold down the command/option/P/R keys at bootup.)

Try booting without loading extensions. (hold the SHIFT key while the system boots up)

Rebuild desktop by holding down the command/option keys during reboot.
