I'm with you, I hate AOL too and try to get anybody I know to leave them. But that AOL thing on top of your browser is strange. Can you remove the program and then use IE that comes with Windows? There are many test pages for connection speed and every time I try one I get a different speed. But try here http://www.jwp.bc.ca/saulm/ie4/7.htm or here http://www.itcom.itd.umich.edu/adsl/speedtest.html

Sounds like Verizon is in kahoots with AOL. If you pick up a free AOL trial version from, say Target, then the top of your AOL browser says something like: AOL brought to you by Target.

So, not only does Target pick up some sort of stipend for your signing up with AOL, but you have to look at the Target advertisment "ad nauseum!" http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Oh, is AOL the ISP you are using with your DSL, or does Verison supply you with an ISP also?

AOL was my ISP.....booted them for Verizon DSL thru work....No problems so far. Sometimes I freeze up, still trying to figure that out as well. Cleaned out some of the services in Network Neighborhood....could anything else be making mre freeze up? Thanks Again!!!

hi,

don't know why I didn't think of this at first, you should go to control panel>> add/remove programs>> remove AOL.>> follow wizard steps>> reboot.

That could be a number of things,Could be the different browsers are not playing well to gether? I can't get Opera and IE6 with RoadRunner to play well with out freeze ups? So I had to dump Opera (it was slow anyway)not as fast as they claim may be ok for dialup.

GammaBoy,

if your parents are not using your pc, then remove AOL, it may be causing the problem!

either the AOL dialer could be looking for something to do, possibly causing a conflict with your DSL.

To personalise IE you could try Internet Explorer Personalizer 3.00 (http://accesscodes.hypermart.net/download.html)

You've probably got it sorted by now but the other way to change the IE Title (if you're happy editing the registry) is to navigate to:-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
And alter the text in the "Window Title" Key to whatever you want. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
