Hello....newby here.

Other than a VPN or secured network set up, is there an option or way to secure a "port" to allow your laptop(s) to use the router for internet....which would prevent other potential users from logging on? ...Or is the current firewall sufficient (depending on settings)??

I run an Hp dv1000 XP Pro edition and HP ze4500 XP home edition (laptops) through my router connected to my Dell desktop (XP home).

In a wireless setting.

You need to enable the encryption in your router. You need to change the SSID from the Standard to one that is more obscure. Check the router's documentation.
