Hi, can anyone tell me what the last two entries are on my msconfig screen, my computer seems to be working fine but i'm just keen to know what they are.

they are small squares, seven in total under the name column and another seven under the command column, they are located in HKCU\SOFTWARE.
I tried to attach a screen print but the file was too large.

Thanks

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!

Could you supply a wee bit more info? OS (Xp -98 etc)

When you say MSCONFIG do you mean START\RUN\ then type mscong and then select the STARTUP tab?

If so, everyones is different depending on exactly what programs are installed and what are set to start at bootup.

As a quick test to see what the programs in question are, look at the task bar (next to the clock) and see what icons show there. These are some of the the programs that start at bootup.

Next go into msconfig and deselect ONE of the unknown programs in the list there (only deselect ONE at a time) and reboot. Once again check to see what is in the task bar next to the clock. If you have an icon missing then this means that you have isolated one of your unknown programs.

You could also go into the registry to the location shown and see if you can get more information from there. (Type REGEDIT at the run command and go to the location indicated) If you are not sure of what you are doing there just write down any details shown, giving the EXACT location in the registry, and exit the registry and post back giving exact location and full details shown. Someone will then give further advice from that point.

Thanks for the quick reply

Yes i did mean START\RUN then msconfig, i recognize all entries except these two, as i said seven small squares and their locations are given as

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Curren Version\Windows:Run
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Curren Version\Windows:Load

when i check these in regedit there is no entry against this location, also if i run a start up monitor it shows all the other entries but not these two, also if i uncheck one of them i get an error on re-boot saying cannot find file and the seven squares where its name should be, as i said all seems well with the system but i would like to know what these are in case i'm missing something.

Im running XP Professional.

Thanks again

Within regedit, search for "KEYS" [or possibly "Values"] named "Run" & "Load" and see what "data" is listed in those.
