Hi guys.
Its been a while but I need a little help.
I want to set up a VPN for a small LAW office. The currently have a DSL Modem
bringing DSL into the office and they have a VPN router hooked in to split their internet connection to the 2 PCs. Now they want to connect from the home to the home office.
I would assume that the Office would need a static IP and that the home would need to be assisgned a static IP with a vpn Router also. I have never really set one up yet although I have done a lot of lan work.
THanks in advance

Without a static IP address, you can use a program like PC anywhere or Remotely yours

Can PC Anywhere allow a user at the home office to access everything that is running on the PCANYWHERE server PC. Can you access network shares and files/printers?

Yes, the only problem is you need the IP address. The advantage of remotely yours is it can e-mail the IP address to you whenever it changes.....

If you have XP or 2000 you would be better to use Remote Desktop and use the acl on the router to allow traffic from only the home PC's. If your going to only connect from Home PC's you don't need a VPN IF they have static IP's. The advantage of remote desktop is pretty obvious. It's free, it works exceptionally well, it's encrypted traffic and it is very quick. You can download remote desktop for win2k at the MS site. Directions on how to set up remote desktop are also easy to find. It is simple to do. I use it every day.

Thanks. Is remote desktop a feature of XP and a download for 2000?

That's correct.

You can find information on it on MS site if you cannot make it work. If you have an Active Directory it's pretty easy to do. Otherwise, you have to create the users on the hosting machine before anyone can connect. You can have two simultaneous users.
