I've read soooooooo much about USB ports not working. I have Win98 installed on my computer. My USB ports were working at one time when I put a USB mouse on but now use a PS2 adapter for it. I bought an HP 825C printer--which unfortunately only has a USB connection and no parallel connection--but hey it was only $50 new. But my USB ports won't work. I've tried all kinds of patches and fixes, but some keep coming up with "not for your version of Windows." So, is it possible to use the Win98SE upgrade CD to upgrade the previous version of Win98? Or is there really a fix out there? I have an IWILL motherboard, 766mhz celeron, 128 meg ram, integrated USB on the board. The only CMOS/BIOS reference for USB is "USB for keyboard in DOS" setting, which is disabled. I've tried the 4-in-1 patch and the USB filter patch and the Win98 critical update from MS, all with no luck.

Check in your device manager for the USB ports .
If they are displayed as active and working.

Then an upgrade to SE may be a waste of effort .

Boot-up in Safe Mode and Remove ALL unknown devices ( Especially those under USB)

USB printers like may other usb devices are very picky about the installation process .
Some will work perfectly when hooked to an external hub others won’t

The same printer that works in one install will quit when another device is added and the printer is not connected and powered up.

Download the Latest Drivers for your new Device
Then Follow the Installation directions to the exact letter..

I have only worked on One Iwill M/B with USB and I recall there being a second usb setting in the integrated options menu in the bios..
I used it to Disable the USB ports completely or Should I say attempted to disable them.

Welcome Major

Be worth a try to check with IWill website
and see if there isn't BIOS upgrades for your
Mboard. One that will address the USB problem.

Luck.

I've tried everything I can think of, and even things I've read in numerous posts here and elsewhere. I've gotten all the updates from IWILL, installed the 4-in-1 patch, the USB filter patch, and even verified that the onchip USB is enabled in BIOS. The system recognizes the USB ports, but I don't have the right files to install the drivers because none of the updates that should work will load--I get the error "this update is not for your version of windows." I am totally frustrated and still have no answers. I have been imprisoned by my father who wishes me to marry against my will. I am in the tall tower of Swamp Castle. Please please please please please come rescue me.
