I'm new here, but this seems to be a very improper place for this question :) . And no, X-Wing and TIE Fighter will not run on Windows XP. Hopefully someone will come along with some way to let you. Probably an emulator. Personally, I just want to buy an ancient Windows 98 system to run all the oldie-but-goodie games out there that I miss so much.

You can try running the old games in compatibility mode. It sometimes works and sometimes it don't.
After you install the games, right click on the shortcut or .exe file > properties > compatibility tab > tick run in compatibility mode > choose windows 95.
Also sometimes the game makers will put out a patch to allow it to run in XP. Sometimes.... But it's worth a look, you never know. ;)
Youngling, I have had little problems running win98 games in compatibility mode in XP. It won't run them all, but many of them will work just fine.

This is a good dos emulator:
DOSbox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net )
It is open source and still in the beginnings, but it has ran all of my old dos games pretty well.
