Has anybody ever bought a refurbished PC from tigerdirect.com, if so has anybody had any problems with them?

I have never purchased from Tiger Direct, but I have purchased many refurbed items.

My rules for refurbs:

1) Refurbed by the manufacturer not an independent refurbisher

2) Same Warranty as new

3) Significant savings over new.

Hi Korn.
What is it that you're looking for? My experience in looking at refurbished computer items is that they are often old technology with a present technology price, less an insignificant discount. Classicsoftware's input is true and is a goog maxim or principle to rely on in general... and I bet he would concur with my hesitation here. Why not tell us what you are looking for, how much you can spend, and I bet one of the "experts" here on this forum (there are a bunch of 'em) will chime in and have you building your own really good/new system/with recent technology for maybe even less than what you saw offered at Tiger Direct.
Just my humble opinion.
Classics' if you disagree, I humbly accept my correction in advance and would love to know why. Always learning! :p

I've only bought new items from tigerdirect and even though their resellers rating is somewhat sketchy, I've had good results.

I have bought a couple of dozen refurbished computers from www.compgeeks.com and have been happy with all of them.

I've only ever bought one refurbished system, back in '00 when I was really pinched for money. I went to a well-regarded local vendor and bought a Dell Dimension XPS Pro 180n (Pentium Pro 180) which I later upgraded with a PII Overdrive CPU to a PII/333. As a matter of fact, I still have the machine and was still using it occasionally (mainly as a TDD/terminal emulator) until recently when I finally retired it after I built my latest system. I'm not sure what I'll do with it, really; it's still good for playing old DOS games and such. Up until my new system, all my monitor buys were refurbished units; my Acer 17" AL1714B LCD is the first brand-new monitor I ever bought.

I got an Acer Power P-4 with 512 MB RAM, 80GB HDD,Windows XP pro for $500.00. It was a factory refurb. A great buy for over a year ago. When you buy refurbed stuff, you have to be a patient and informed consumer.

nimnorf2 is true that alot of refurbed stuff is NOT worth it. You just have to cautious and know exactly what you are getting. If you are looking at a system, what would you get from DELL new for the same price. I DON'T like Dell, but it's a point of comparison.

As for buying old technology. I have no problem with that. As longas you get value. For most people, 533 MHZ FSB computers are fine eventhough the 800 FSB motherboards are state of the art. Who cares for just browsing and word processing. What you are looking for is value..

Post what you are looking at and what the price is and we can advise you on if it's a good value.
