Hjt Log After Adult Site Searching

Hi there, this is a log (below) from a friend of mine, he admits surfing the net at adult sites and casinos and I have explained to him that this is a big no no! could you possibly look at his HJT log and advise what to delete.

I have unistalled NETSCAPE,YAHOO MESSENGER, MSNMESSENGER, EBAY TOOL BAR, GOOGLE TOOLBAR, and lots of other rubish he had on there, he doesn't know a great deal about pc's and I dont want to delete anything on HJT until I receive your advice.

I have read your guidelines several times however cos itsnot my pc I would rather get primary advice.

The first step would be to delete that log.

Next, reboot and post a fresh HJT log. :D

Hehe...you guys are bad...

FIrst, try and actually post a log...copy & paste it into a post.

Second, some of the stuff you listed isn't malware or even bad...Google Toolbar can be very useful, Netscape is/was a decent to good (depending on version) browser although I always despised it, Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger can be simply disabled at startup but left in place in case they are actually used. (Actually uninstalling MSN Messenger is the only way I've found to get rid of it for good if it's not actually used.) A lot of my customers use either or both, I always ask before removing them or even disabling startup entries.

For browsing adult sites, a more secure browser like Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) (or the Netscape you removed :D ) and a few precautions like a good antivirus (required) and firewall (strongly recommended) would make that a lot safer. For online casinos, same thing, the games themselves usually aren't the problem, it's the spyware either bundled with them or loaded on your machine by the website they are connected with. Read the EULA before installing...and use a better browser than IE.

As regards to NETSCAPE, GOOGLE TOOLBAR, EBAY TOOLBAR E.T.C these aren't used anymore on his sytem that is why I deleted them.

Yep. You (or he has) got some hijacking going on..

But you are using an older version oof HJT. Repost a log with version 1.99.1 and then wait for one of our security "MD's" ;)
