Greetings,

Here is a strange one for you. I have a USRobitcs 33.6k modem that twice within 3 weeks had a throughput of about twice its rating, (53.7k, 54.6k, 67.6k, 54.3k using http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest) I normally get about 29.9k. This seems to not be possible, yet it has happened twice.
The last time (today) I logged of and tried to get back on and the modem "handshake noise" was way off. After 3 tries the noise was normal and my connecton throughput was back to normal! What is going on? And no, I do not listen to Art Bell! And I have not reflashed the modem!

Alot of dialups' performance is based on the qaulity of your telephone line; and the quality of your isp.

More than likely you just had a " good " day http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif when your line wasn't being interfeered with and your isp was on the ball.

Even 56k modem's average only 44k per sec, and the FCC has capped standard phone data transfer at 56kps.

Have you updated your driver's recently? This can also give an added boost to a device if it's software is more instruction set is more efficient.

Thanks Bob,

I have not updated the Modem Drivers. It just seems weird that I was able to connect at about 2times my normal connection speed, and about 1.7 times the reated speed of 33.6k. Come to think of it, the last time that it happened was on a weekend (I think) and about twilight (as like today). My ISP is AOL (imagine that!) I will let you know if it happens again!

Thanks Again!
