Okay so I hooked up the hard drive in my tower, put my XP disk in and started everything up.

I pressed 'any key' to boot from the CD when it prompts me to (you know, during the black screen with the dots (....) and I come to a series of blue screens. They tell me to press 'this button' if I agree and I do but then I come to another blue screen that says "We cannot detect a version of windows on your computer please insert one of the following disks..." Then it lists windows xp home edition (full version) and a whole lot of other versions of windows.

It tells me to press enter once I've inserted the correct disk. I press enter because I have XP in the CD-ROM drive already. After some time of 'loading...' it returns me to the 'we cannot detect...' screen.

I have windows xp home edition.

Why won't it read the disk?

I took the disk out, started up my comp again and it says I need to have the BOIS boot from the floppy or something. I'm terribly confused.

I've had this new hard drive for about 3 years I'm still too silly to know how to install it.

Any help? Please?

It sounds like you are trying to install from an upgrade disk. It will only work if you have an install disk for one of the OS's mentioned in the upgradable list.

Thanks.

This sucks though cause this disk was expensive as it is...

How much did you pay for it?

If you have a Win98SE disk, this should be enough. When asked " "We cannot detect a version of windows on your computer please insert one of the following disks...", insert the CD. and press Enter. After a check, you will be prompted to reinsert the WinXP CD, and installation will continue OK.
