What version of Windows are you running?

Did you use Microsoft tools to partition the drive (fdisk)?

Oops..didn't see the 98se....

Ok, when booting, hit the <f8> key and then select "command prompt" from the menu or boot to a boot disk. At the prompt type fdsik_/mbr (space instead of the underscore).

Run Fdisk and see if it sees the partitions....if it doesn't see them then go grab the drive manufacturers diagnostic utilities and run them.

You are probably the victim of a virus, imminent drive failure or just a significant error, but in all the above the only real fix is to start over from scratch, fdisk to remove any existing partitions, then build new ones, then format and reinstall...

If Fdisk does recognise the existing partitions then it is a Windows problem....

Run a virus scan and also the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostics....eliminate the possiblilty of viral infection and a failing hard drive.

After that you can try removing the drive from device manager...also make sure that there are no conflicts listed in device manager.

The virus scan should be non-sdestructive, so should the diagnostics, unless you decide to make any changes...

But one thing I forgot about.....run scandisk, hit <f8> during boot up and select command prompt, then type scandisk at the prompt...it may be able to fix or at least give a hint where the problem is....

Does fdisk show them?

You can use fdisk to look at them, just don't change anything...

You can type FDISK /STATUS at a command prompt to view your partition information w/out having to actually open the FDISK command.

Are you saying that window's doesn't recognize any of ypour previous partitions?

Try this program { Ranish (http://www.ranish.com/part) }-it will give you more info/option's than MS's DOS version of FDISK.

Post back with what you see, so we can help diagnose from there.

Is this software can detect my exisitng missing partitions. I can re format it but my data will get lost. As the link says it wil only partitions my hard disk but Im not sure if this can detect the missing partitions.

Both fdisk and Ranish will allow you to view the existing partition structure without making any changes...if there is nothing to view then there is no data to save, it is already gone!

if its not view... is there any way to recover it. Coz when I tried to run scan disk it shows only my C: and D: it supposed to be 4 patitions and 1 cd drive. Does it means that I already lost all my data in the partitions disk

I'm guessing that you are able to load Windows because you are able to access the device manager.

Right click on the C: drive and press properties.
If the capacity is the total of the hard drive, you no longer have any partitions.

If the capacity is the size of the partition, then you might still have the other partitions too.
If that is the case then you will need to open a command prompt and type: fdisk /status.
That will show you if you have any active partitons.

I saw it but it seems that its having some error on the partitions how to solve it??

Are you seeing all your harddrive space in C:? or are you seeing only part of it? ( like 10 Gigs on a 40 Gig harddrive ).

Run the fdisk /status command again and write down exactly what you see on the screen and post back with that info.

You're not giving us much to go on here, so we need a little more data to help you out.
